COVID and Vaccine Update was started in 2020 as a private newsletter to translate the science behind the development of the new vaccines. After 215 issues, Update is going public to help meet the challenges of diminished public health institutions and increased disinformation.
Recently, reporting expanded to additional vaccine-preventable infectious diseases, such as the active flu season and outbreaks of measles in people and bird flu in animals.
Update does not provide medical advice, just factual reporting on the science.
What to expect:
• Publication on Monday and midweek for breaking news; or skip if no significant development
• General organization is a brief update of disease statistics , reporting on vaccine developments or current related topics
Key points are presented for easy takeaway with longer reports as needed.
• Reporting is based on primary sources, including science journals (where my experience in peer review comes in).
Most sources are cited just by name of publication or institution to avoid long links, but these are available.
My expertise is in molecular biology (Ph.D.), the causes of diseases, and vaccine development. I am also a science writer interested in increasing science literacy.
